Outscoring the Accountants

At the beginning of our Accounting class, the professor surveyed the students. Seven of the students were either professional accountants or had majored in accounting. To motivate them to maintain interest, he proposed a competition: The two students with the highest averages at the end of the semester would be exempt from the Final Exam and automatically receive A+.

I had just been elected Treasurer for the Student Council, so I used that opportunity to apply our class concepts. I kept a ledger and journal for all of our incoming and outgoing expenses, and became familiar with how accounting for an organization really works.

At the end of the semester, the student with the 2nd highest average was an accountant who worked at the Jordanian embassy. The student with the overall highest average was me. This was my first accounting class.
